The major fire in the southern French Department Aude is decreasing in intensity, but is still not under control. The local fire brigade reports this on Thursday morning. The largest natural fire in France in 75 years has destroyed more than 16,000 hectares of vegetation in 24 hours: 1.5 times the surface of Paris. There have been a dead and two seriously injured, three people are still missing. The French Prime Minister Bayrou went on the spot yesterday and called the fire “a disaster of unprecedented size”.
