Thomas Müller continues his big football career in North America. The long -time professional of FC Bayern moves to Canada to the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The ink is dry, the deal is fixed: Thomas Müller will play for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the North American Major League Soccer (MLS) – it is the first foreign station for the 35 -year -old who had no longer received a contract from FC Bayern Munich. The contract runs for a year.
Thomas Müller wants to write history
“Whitecaps – Let’s Make History,” said Müller in a video he published on the Internet. He wrote: “It is done.” In a message from the new association, he said: “I look forward to coming to Vancouver and helping this team to win the championship.” He heard a lot of good things about the city, but first and foremost come to celebrate victories.
“Significant obligation” for the Vancouver Whitecaps
“Thomas is a world-class player-the ultimate German space-known for his outstanding exploitation of opportunities, his unsurpassed understanding of space and his tireless movements without a ball,” said Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster in a message.
Müller is “a born leader whose passion for the game is contagious. This is a significant commitment of our association and our owners – a transformative moment for our club and our city.”
From Bavaria to Canada – duels with Reus and Messi
After a quarter of a century at Bayern, the 2014 world champion wants to experience something new behind the Rocky Mountains. In the future, Müller will play against ex-Dortmund Marco Reus, who will end his career at Los Angeles Galaxy. Both teams start in the Western Conference of the MLS. Duels with world star Lionel Messi, who competes with Inter Miami in the Eastern Conference, are also possible.
In the Western Conference table, Vancouver belongs to the top group – participation in the playoffs is very likely for the team, which is put together by the former Bundesliga manager Axel Schuster.
Most successful German footballer
Müller himself had recently indicated a move to Canada, which organized the World Cup together with Mexico and the USA in 2026. First of all, he confirmed that the football pension still had to wait. In a video he announced that he was “over the big pond”. In the clip he says: “25 years of Fcb. Schee was every day. Even if it is over now.”
After almost a quarter of a century at FC Bayern, Müller’s career, characterized by records and titles, continues, even when an era ended in Munich. Müller has been with Bayern since July 1, 2000 – such a long time is a rarity at this level. The big triumphs also make Müller one of the most successful German footballers ever.
Thomas Müller: “An incredible journey”
“It was an incredible journey, characterized by unique experiences, great encounters and unforgettable triumphs,” the two-time triple winner had already explained at the announced end of his Bayern period in early April. Finally, he kept fit as a training guest on Säbener Straße.
The step to North America offers him the chance to get to know something new again. Bastian Schweinsteiger, celebrated by the Bayern fans as a “football god”, once ended his career in the MLS at Chicago Fire.
In addition to Messi (Miami) and Reus (Los Angeles Galaxy), the larger names also include Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba (all Inter Miami) and the former French national goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (Los Angeles FC).
Record player Thomas Müller: Impressive numbers
In addition to Bayern, Müller has only played for TSV Pähl as a child. Ellenlang is the list of his record numbers. The offensive star is not only a club, but also a Bundesliga icon. Müller is the first player who cheered 350 Bundesliga victories.
Through his 756 competitive games for FC Bayern, he is the record player of the club. 13 German championships and six cup wins are special title brands behind the two Champions League triumphs.
Müller should stay in the club beyond career
FC Bayern hopes to be able to build the 131-time international beyond the end of the career. Several officials and practically all fans want Müller to return to Säbener Straße at some point, preferably in a managerial function in professional management or in the core club.
Müller has already left the noise around his non-extended Bayern career. “Nothing negative gets stuck between me and the club,” said Müller. “You don’t always have to agree in life to ride fully on a wave. We have common goals and common interests.”
