The Audio Streaming Service Spotify increases its prices again. In a press release, it was confirmed that the premium eBulus increases from September 2025 from 10.99 euros to 11.99 euros per month. An increase of nine percent. The last fee-kick upwards was in October 2023.

From 14.99 euros to around 17 euros

The market leader is now more expensive than the competition of Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music or Tidal. In international industry services, it is speculated whether the competition will also “adapt” their subscription models in the future. Despite the higher price, Spotify does not offer better audio quality or a much larger music catalog than most competitors.

For the “duo subscription” (two people), the tariffs increase from 14.99 euros to around 17 euros, according to forecasts of the tech services, the “Family subscription” (up to six people) must be shot around EUR 17.99. The “student subscription” (so far 5.99 euros) also climbs to 7 euros. These figures have not yet been officially confirmed, but the previous fee patterns follow analogously to increase the premium category. The price screw is also turned in other world regions.

The most expensive of all – without increasing quality

This means that Spotify Premium becomes the most expensive streaming service until further notice without increasing quality. At the moment you work with a so-called AAC compression at 256 kbit/s, while Apple Music and Tidal promise better values. At the catalog, the Tidal (popular in the USA) is ahead: around 100 million Spotify songs are available, and Tidal is over 110 million.

Spotify recently presented his expansion plans in the field of podcasts and audio books in the Berlin branch. Spotify Premium contains only 15 hours of audiobook enjoyment per month; That is not enough for a thick tea.

Above all, the price increase should be necessary, since Spotify had to accept a net loss of 86 million euros in the last 2025 quarter due to higher personnel costs and tax burdens.

The service was able to report an annual profit for the first time in 2024, which should be due to previous price increases and savings. CEO Daniel EK, who has been at the top of the company for almost 20 years, and his management rely on high customer loyalty in order to be able to implement the new changes without dismissals.

With over 696 million active users per month (including 276 million paying subscribers), Spotify remains. How the new pricing models will have a long time will depend on whether new functions and content justify the higher costs.

At least on the investor side, the first reactions are positive. After the announcement, the Spotify shares rose by around five percent on the stock exchanges.
