A fire broke out this morning in café Ponybar in Gieten. The fire is raging at the back of the building on the Brink, but may expand further.
Owner Henk-Jan Hadderingh takes the worst scenario into account. “The fire is not in the catering section,” he still praises himself. “But if it gets too hot, the fire can skip.”
The cash register and a computer are secured, but many valuable attributes are still in the building. The and catering and living area is separated by a fire wall. “I don’t know how it is in now. It is one of the last authentic village pubs in the Northern Netherlands,” he reminds. “And just about the last pub of Gieten.”
Hadderingh would just go on vacation when he was surprised by the fire. He was alerted by bystanders who saw smoke coming from the cafe.
The fire brigade has been busy extinguishing the fire since the end of the morning. The adjacent daycare center is evacuated because the fire may still be expanding.
It is not known how the fire could arise. As far as we know, nobody was injured.
