Porto sports director Jorge Costa suddenly died

Portuguese football mourns the loss of a well -known personality: Jorge Costa is dead. The former international and long -time captain of FC Porto died at the age of 53.
As the club and the Portuguese association FPF announced, Costa suffered a cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning during the training session of the professional team. The incident occurred in the Olival training center in Vila Nova de Gaia. Although the former central defender was immediately taken care of and then brought to Hospital de São João in Porto – the doctors could no longer save him.
“Peace in peace, captain,” wrote FC Porto on social networks. Costa most recently worked as the club’s sports director.
His career is closely connected to FC Porto. There he shaped the game for years and led the team to numerous successes as captain. His biggest triumph: the winner of the Champions League under coach José Mourinho in 2004. With Porto, Costa also finished eight times the national champion and five times cup winner. He played 50 caps for the Portuguese national team.
“A black year in the history of FC Porto,” said the club on the Instagram platform. The club also alluded to the recent death of the former striker Diogo Jota (28 years/FC Liverpool). FC Porto continued that Costa was “our eternal captain of the captains”, the “largest symbol of blue and white mysticism”. He was considered a model on and off the square and served as an inspiration for generations.
