Barça probably initiates procedures against Ter Stegen

Due to a back surgery, a change from Marc-André ter Stegen has burst for the time being. The tensions between the club and players remain.

The conflict between Marc-André Ter Stegen and FC Barcelona apparently comes to a head. As the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reports, the club has now initiated disciplinary proceedings against the German national goalkeeper.

The trigger is intended to sign a declaration of consent with which the association could pass on medical documents to the Commission of the Spanish league. Specifically, it is about reports on the back injury and the operation of the goalkeeper. Without this information, the league could not judge how severe the injury is actually.

Barça has now handed over the case to his own legal department. Possible consequence: an internal punishment – depending on the evaluation by the club’s lawyers.

At the center of the conflict is apparently not only the injury itself. Ter Stegen had recently undergone back surgery and mentioned a duration of around three months in a social media contribution. According to information from the “Mundo Deportivo”, however, the club assumes a significantly longer forced break – namely four to five months.

This assessment is not insignificant: in Spain a club can use 80 percent of the player salary in a violation of at least four months – for example, to register new new ones. For Barça, which is financially under pressure, this option would be important. However, according to the report, Ter Stegen blocks this path without the approval of the player to pass on the medical information.

Joan García, newcomer from Espanyol and planned as a replacement for the DFB goalkeeper, apparently cannot be registered under these circumstances.
