Transmobil improves mobility in Westhoek across the border

To this end, the project is setting up a cross-border network of ‘mobi hubs’. Hubs are places in towns and cities where people can go for mobility services. In West Flanders there are 15.

In some hubs you can borrow a bicycle or explore the city center with a shared scooter. In other hubs, take a taxi to the nearest bus stop across the border. Ypres is one of the ‘mobi hubs’. Valentijn Seys, mobility officer in Ypres: “In Ypres we have shared bicycles at the station. We have shared cars, seven units. A larger car is included so that you can also drive to France by car. There are also shared scooters for riding in the city center.” (read more below the map)

The Transmobil project will also provide two new cross-border bus connections this year, from Poperinge and Ypres. Currently, only one regular bus crosses the border, in Adinkerke. Jurgen Vanlerberghe, deputy for mobility: “We have received funds for two pilot projects with buses. A bus connection from Ypres to Armentières, and a second from Poperinge to Hazebroek.”
