Although Russian troops have made some progress to part of the front in Ukraine, they are delayed in their current summer offensive at various major operations. The reason for this is that they are struggling to cross rivers. Recent attempts to cross the DnjePR and Oskol rivers have failed several times. The Ukrainians in turn use this weakness in their favor.
