In the first game after returning to the 3rd division, the MSV Duisburg booked a home win. “Joker” Patrick Sussek had a large part in this.

Before 19,652 fans in the MSV-Arena, the “Zebras” won 2-1 (0-0) against VfB Stuttgart II on the early Saturday evening.

The Stuttgart U21 started lively and tried to build pressure. The MSV initially focused on defense and had its effort with the rapid game of the guests. The Stuttgarters, on their part, lacked determination, so there were hardly any goal area campaigns in the first half.

MSV coach Dietmar Hirsch reacted to the harmless appearance of his team in the first half: he changed striker Patrick Sussek at the second half, who had succeeded in the promotion season for the “zebras”.

It didn’t even take six minutes for the “Joker” to hit: After a long ball by Steffen Meuer, Sussek had sent free rail and tunneled guest goalkeeper Florian Hellstern (51st minute). It was the first third division goal for the 25-year-old Sussek.

Five minutes later, Duisburg had the great chance for the second goal: Joshua Bitter fit with a good overview across the guest penalty to Tim Heike, who failed from a short distance and a pointed angle on the Stuttgart keeper.

Nothnagel meets for Stuttgart II

Shortly thereafter, the equalizer strike fell on the other side of the field when the Duisburg defense did not act consistently enough at a corner: After Nicolas Sessa’s cornerstone, Stuttgart’s defender Dominik Nothhnagel came to the header relatively unexpectedly in the five -meter room and scored 1-1 (65th).

In the 73rd minute, Stuttgart II had the chance to go, but MSV goalkeeper Maximilian Braune parried a shot from Eliot Bujupi.

Sussek initiates further hits

In return, the young MSV team took the lead again with 2-1: Sussek prevailed against Alexander Groiß on the left and shot from an acute angle onto the goal – Maximilian Herwerth falsified the ball, which then ended up in the short goaleck (74.). Goalkeeper Hellstern had no chance.

In an exciting final phase, the guests had several chances: Mohamed Sankoh scored the post of MSV goal (79.). But finally the Duisburg defense held the attacks, and in the end the hosts were able to celebrate their home win.

MSV jumps to the top with victory

Because all previous games ended with a draw on the first third division match day, the Duisburgers jumped at the top of the table with the triple point win at least temporarily.

Duisburg now has to go to Regensburg

The next game for the MSV is on Sunday, August 10th: Then the “Zebras” will be guest at Jahn Regensburg, kick -off is at 1.30 p.m.
