Tesla at the turning point: large ambitions
Lars Moravy, Vice President for Vehicle Development at Tesla, spoke at the “X Takeover” event in San Mateo about the upcoming technological and strategic upheaval at Tesla. The company is in the middle of a “big turn”, says Moravy, who has been working at Tesla for over 15 years.
“We experience great fluctuations, and sometimes this risk can also bring considerable disadvantages,” said Moravy. “We are in a phase of large upheavals for autonomous vehicles, robotaxis, Optimus and Semi.”
Especially the Semi Truck, which is produced at the Reno plant, play a central role in Tesla’s company mission.
At the event, which was organized by the club “Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley”, other companies from Elon Musk’s cosmos were also the focus for Tesla for the first time – including a link between the group leader by video conference.
On the site, Tesla also presented his planned autonomous two-seater model “Cybercab” and the Robot Optimus.
Growth pressure and political hurdles
Despite ambitious future visions, Tesla is currently facing considerable challenges in the classic automotive business. The sales figures in important markets such as California are declining – there alone the deliveries decreased seven quarters in a row. At the same time, US policy puts the company under pressure: The tax plan presented by President Donald Trump sees the abolition of the Electric car-D promotion of $ 7,500, which has so far been an important sales driver. In addition, regulatory changes are planned, which, according to Tesla leadership, could have negative effects on sales and profits.
In June, Tesla started producing a cheaper electric car that is scheduled to come onto the market in 2025. This model, which is supposed to be similar to Model Y, is considered a hopeful to stabilize the sales figures before the tax benefits expire.
Smaller cyberruck ahead?
According to the Business Insider, Moravy also announced that the company examines a smaller variant of cybertrucks. A more compact model could be better received, especially in international markets. And Tesla also sees potential for use in the area of robotaxi and goods transport. Initial considerations are already available in the design studio, says Moravy.
