Putin positive about conversations with Ukraine: “People who are disappointed have too high expectations”
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been positive about the conversations with Ukraine. According to him, people who are disappointed about the course of the negotiations had too high expectations.
US President Donald Trump has often said in recent weeks that he was disappointed in Putin, because he would not be willing to close a deal with Ukraine. Trump has given the Russians until next Friday for a cease-fire. Otherwise the United States would set heavy sanctions.
Putin said on Friday that he hopes that working groups will be set up with Russians and Ukrainians to discuss possible compromises. He called Kiev’s reaction to that plan positive. According to Putin, the further conversations should take place “without cameras and in a quiet environment”.
Zenski wanted to talk to Putin himself
The US has been trying to mediate between the two countries for months and have made a proposal for a file, to which Kiev has agreed. The Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski also wanted to talk to Putin himself, but the Russian president did not respond to that.
Although Putin spoke about possible compromises, he also said that Russia’s war goals remain unchanged. He would like to achieve a “permanent and stable peace”, where Ukraine would have to give up territory.
‘Momentum War in favor of Russia’
According to Putin, the momentum in the war is now in favor of the Russian troops, who would attack the entire front line. He repeated that they would have conquered the Eastern Ukrainian town of Tsjasiv Jar on Thursday. Kiev has denied that.
