Camera surveillance starts on August 4, the municipality reports in a letter to the residents and entrepreneurs of the neighborhood. The camera comes to the intersection of the Spoorstraat and the Snaarmanslaan, at Spoorstraat 64.
It has been restless in the neighborhood around the station for some time. According to residents there are daily incidents with homeless people or entertainment crowds that are shouting in front of the door, drinking alcohol or using drugs. “We have been living here for seven years, and during that period we saw it completely slipping,” one of them told NH News.

The camera lingers up to and including 30 September. The municipality then decides whether the measure contributes to reducing the nuisance. The camera may stay longer.
The images made are only viewed if there is a clear reason for that, the municipality writes in the letter. It would not be possible to look inside houses and all images are stored according to the Police Data Act.
The municipality may keep those images for a maximum of 28 days, after which they will be erased.
