The death of the former biathlete is also close to Thomas Huber. He said goodbye in emotional words – he had previously helped with the attempted rescue.

Mountaineer Thomas Huber made a public saying goodbye to the former world-class biathlete after the death of Laura Dahlmeier. “Your tent remains empty now, but your energy shines in these mountains up to eternity. All the pain about what has experienced is hardly to be put into words,” wrote the 57-year-old on Instagram on Thursday.

Huber was involved in the unsuccessful rescue campaign in Dahlmeier. On Wednesday there was the final certainty about the death of the double Olympic champion in 2018 after she was already hit by a rockfall at the Laila Peak on Monday at Laila Peak in Pakistan and apparently died immediately. Attempts to recover the body has so far failed due to the terrain conditions at almost 6000 meters.

“When we received the message (…), we immediately packed our backpacks,” wrote Huber. Among other things, with expedition manager Alan Rousseau and the American Jackson Marvell, he had tried to reach the place of the accident. But the weather and threatening rockfall prevented the salvage. “After a multiple overflight on Layla Peak, we knew that Laura had climbed to her last summit.”

Despite the tragedy, Huber also found comforting words. “As tragic as everything is, Laura lived her dream until the end, every second and she was and is still a role model that life is an incredible gift that should be fulfilled with love, passion and fire, everything else would be tragic,” he wrote: “Thank you Laura for all moments that we were able to experience together. Mouth … “

Huber wants to break up again on Saturday. He thought about how things should go now, “but you, Laura, already gave me the answer,” he wrote. That’s why he went back to the Choktoi Valley on Saturday to go on “Laura would have gone”.
