It is clear that Gerard Joling (66) wants to cash in one last time before the real decline begins and that is why he is going to Ahoy in February. He initially announced two concerts and in order to sell them out, he made a big statement that they were ‘farewell concerts’ and that he would definitely only give two. More than two? No, never, he swore.

Lots of scams

Geer has now announced a third concert and farewell concerts? The singer states that he is saying goodbye to his ‘big solo concerts’, but according to TV critic Victor Vlam you cannot say goodbye to something that you have not done for twenty years. According to him, that was Geer’s last ‘big’ concert. Victor is critical.

What does Geer think of that criticism? He appears in the Today Inside from yesterday with an orange outfit. “Are you going to wear that at those concerts where you ripped off everything according to Victor Vlam? Are you going to wear that too?”, host Wilfred Genee asks him.

“Something crazy, huh?”

Gerard reacts irritated. “Hahaha. That’s such a strange thing, isn’t it, that that man is so unkind? You know, that man just needs to do his homework better. It’s of course unprecedented that you say things like that. I’m not going to defend myself against it, I just have to laugh about it, man. Let it go.”

“There will be a third evening, but there was a bit of a commotion. I said: ‘These are my last concerts, at this size I’m not going to do it on my own again, it’s just too much.’ I did so many things after that: Spaarnwoude, the Ziggo Dome, Carré and Ahoy.”

Victor Vals

But what Victor says is correct, isn’t it? That he was last in Ahoy twenty years ago? “He really needs to do his homework better. That’s the only thing I can say, so I would say: Victor Vals, you didn’t go well. Too bad!”

And what about the promise that he would give at most two ‘farewell concerts’? “It was indeed the case. We never thought it would be sold out so quickly. Then you think: should we add a third one? We didn’t count on that at all!”

Drip through

Gerard says he did not expect this success. “Normally you announce it nine months in advance, then it can trickle down and then it might just be full, but it really went like crazy.”

He concludes: “A third concert has been added. People can simply order a ticket.”

Ka-ching!
