All women participating in the World Athletics World Cup are required to test a chromosome test before the event begins. The International Athletics Association WA announced this on Wednesday.
The new rules will enter into force on 1 September, ie the test must be given before the World Cup starts on September 13th.
All athletes who want to compete in World Championships or other events at the Women’s Series at the World Ranking points. Everyone is only tested once during a career.

– This is especially important in a sport trying to attract women. We strive to show that the species does not have a biological glass ceiling. A test for biological sex is an important step.
– If you want to compete at the top level in the women’s series, you have to be biologically a woman. It has always been very clear to me and the Wa Council that sex cannot exceed biology.
The test can be taken from the inside of the cheek by swiping or as a blood test. According to WA, both are a reliable method for verifying chromosomes, or biological sex.

In the future, in addition to biological women, biological men who have not gone through a man’s adolescence, or whose gender development, has not been able to compete in the women’s series. In the latter case, the WA still has additional instructions.
Biological women who have previously used testosterone for sex -related treatments may also compete in women’s series. However, those athletes in question must wait at least four years after the last dose of testosterone before the competition permit is allowed.
The athlete may refuse a sex test. Then there will be no permission to participate in the World Cup, but the athlete can participate in the Games that do not earn the points of the world rankings.
