Marco Sturm praised Leon Draisaitl exuberantly. For the head coach of the Boston Bruins, the superstar of Edmonton Oilers is currently the measure of all things in terms of ice hockey.

“Leon is awesome, for me the best ice hockey player in the world, even if many would answer this question with Connor McDavid. Leon is always dangerous when he is on the ice. Not many have this quality, as an opposing trainer you have to be very vigilant,” Sturm told the “kicker”.

“In Canada yes, no in the USA,” replied the former national coach when asked whether Draisaitl received the recognition deserved in North America, which is often denied in Germany.

“He can hardly move freely in Edmonton. I think he deserves more recognition, especially in Germany. With all respect for the omnipresent football, we currently have no player who is as good as Leon in ice hockey. He shines far away, but that was also true for Dirk Nowitzki in basketball, he was more in conversation,” said Sturm.

Draisaitl goes into his 12th season in Edmonton. In the past two seasons, the 29-year-old failed with the Oilers in the Stanley Cup finals at the Florida Panthers.
