Unusually light and variable conditions for the Fastnet Race, the final act of the prestigious team test. For the Monegasque team led by Pierre Casiraghi a surprise triumph.
It was a Fastnet Race of the great signatures, which brought the Italian team – Django Team – to a good third place in the Admiral’s Cup, conquered by the Montecarlo team. Instead, it was not an epic fastnet race, as it took place in unusual light conditions and variable for the area, with periods of flat calm, as if it were in the midst of the Mediterranean. Here are the very low averages also of the fastest boats: the winner in real time Svr Lazartigue – Maxi Trimarano of the Ultima class – took 1 day, 17 hours and 18 minutes on the 695 mile route from Cherbourg Cowes with the passage of the legendary Scoglio del Fastnet, at the southern end of Ireland. The 32 meters armed by the Frenchman Tom Larerche started on his head and had no problems to repeat the success of 2024 when he had reached the finish line in 1 day, 8 hours and 38 minutes, establishing the new record of the race. In the crew of ‘Les Bleus’ – as the sailors of Svr Lazartigue are called – there were two champions: Franck Cammas – eclectic phenomenon par excellence of the transalpine sail and the New Zealand Peter Burling – King of the America’ Cup who, waiting to understand the role in the Luna Rossa team, is’ having fun ‘in the Sail GP circuit and precisely in the great regattas such as Fastnet Race.

The other great signature, certainly not as skilled as Burling and Cammas, but a true enthusiast and protagonist of the worldly chronicles is Pierre Casiraghi, son of the disappeared champion of Motonautica Stefano and Carolina di Monaco. Great seaside enthusiast and vice -president of the Yacht Club de Monaco, was the real animator of the Monegasque team and in addition he helped one of the two boats that gave the Principality a surprising victory in front of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club team and that of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda who sponsored the match of Team Django. The victory in the Admiral’s Cup came thanks to the performance in Fastnet – which had a triple score coefficient – both by Jolt 6 (the hull shaved by Casiraghi himself) which dominated in the category of smaller boats, going up to the first place in the general both of Jolt 3 which defended leadership – for a single point – in the category of larger boats, without shining in the Fastnet Race. Sensational brace and the most prestigious trophy of the hill sailing that ends in the main hall of the Yacht Club de Monaco, obviously chaired by his Serenissima height of Prince Alberto II. It was not enough, the first real -time single -faced one of the entire 400 boats fleet was Black 100, which runs for the club. “It was a real teamwork, from sailors to the crew on the ground. For Monaco, this is a historical event. We are a small town, but we have just shown that we can achieve great things”, it was Pierre Casiraghi’s comment on Instagram at the end of the regatta. And in fact, the Monegasque team, enhanced by many foreigners, however, deserved success.

We come to ours. After the success in the opening channel Race and the good performances of WallyRocket 51, it was hoped that Team Django could improve third place on the eve of the Fastnet Race. It didn’t go like this. The boat led by Vasco Vascotto ranked eighth in the Fastnet Race and third in Class 1 in the general classification of the Admiral’s Cup: he lost ground during the long bolina until the Boa round and despite a nice comeback in the stern stretch towards Cherbourg, the conditions did not allow to fully exploit its potential. The most boat, the JPK with Skipper Michele Ivaldi has conquered an excellent third place in his class, after being at the top of the ranking in compensated time in different places and having missed the second place for only 14 minutes. “We are happy, proud and satisfied with the result. I must say that it was even a surprise for us: if you don’t satisfy you from a podium …” it was the comment of Vascotto, which must be signed considering that Italy for some time had collected very little in the international hill. The first (half) revenge is scheduled in the spring of 2026 when the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will organize -the last edition was in 2012 -its -Simbolo regatta, the Sardinia Cup: born just like a Mediterranean Admiral’s Cup, it will run with the same format seen in the past few days at Cowes.
