Today (July 30th) a public funeral procession takes place in Ozzy Osbourne’s hometown Birmingham. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m. British time (2 p.m. CEST) on the Broad Street in the city center – and is broadcast live on the Internet.

The funeral procession leads to the well-known Black Sabbath Bridge and Ozzy memorial bench, where thousands of fans have laid out flowers and messages for days. The train is accompanied musically by the local brass band Bostin ‘Brass.

Lord Mayor: “He put Birmingham on the map”

The Mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, commented on the day before: “We show one of the greatest legend Birmingham’s last honor. Ozzy has made our city and the Aston district world famous.”

Since Ozzy Osbourne’s death on July 22nd at the age of 76, mourning worldwide. A condolence book was interpreted in Birmingham, in which the mayor also wrote down his thoughts. Many fans are now calling for the Birmingham Airport or a stage of the Download Festival after the Metal pioneer. A corresponding petition already has over 52,000 signatures.

Last appearance: “Back to the starting”

Just a few weeks before his death, on July 5, Ozzy played his last concert in Birmingham. “Back to the Beginning” was the motto that combined him on stage with his “Black Sabbath” bandmates for one last time. The proceeds benefited charity, including Cure Parkinson’s, the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Acorns Children’s Hospice. A concert film for this appearance is currently in production at Mercury Studios and is scheduled to come to cinemas in 2026.
