For a drug lab and a hemp farm in his barn in New Amsterdam, a 56-year-old man from Emmen was sentenced to 193 days in jail, of which 180 days are conditional. The man has been in custody for 14 days, he does not have to go back into jail. He must, however, perform a 240 -hour community service.
At the beginning of June, the man not only had a hemp farm in his home in New Amsterdam. He rented his barn to others who set up a drug lab. Synthetic hard drugs were produced in that lab. He did that to get rid of his debts. The suspect has contributed to the trade of hardware and soft drugs. Drugs have a negative impact on society, the judge judges. People become addicted and drug waste is dumped in the environment, with major consequences that entails.
The man has not had an eye for all risks, including the explosion hazard. After all, he lived there with his three children. The electricity was stolen by breaking a seal in the meter cupboard. Moreover, the man turned out to have a weapon in the house. The people to whom he rented the barn are never outdated. The Public Prosecution Service previously demanded a prison sentence of fifteen months, of which five months are conditional.
The punishment is lower. This is mainly due to the fact that the man seems to improve his life. Apart from that, he has to pay part of the clean -up costs of the lab: more than 7,300 euros.
