A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 hit the far east of Russia on Wednesday (local time). The quake took place at the Kamchatka peninsula and has led to tsunamiwaarsleningen worldwide.
The earthquake took place at 11.24 am local time (01.24 am Dutch time), at a depth of nineteen kilometers. The epicenter is located in the Pacific Ocean 136 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamtjatski.
