Actually, you can only start at the swimming World Cup at the age of 14. Yu Zidi received an exemption and surprised.

At the swimming World Cup in Singapore, a young athlete causes a stir: Yu Zidi is only twelve years old and is still part of the top of the world. She narrowly missed the podium over 200 meters – just six hundredths of a second.

In the final, the Chinese struck 2: 09.21 minutes and thus took fourth place. World record holder Summer Mcintosh from Canada secured the victory. Alex Walsh came from the USA in second place, bronze won the Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey-with a wafer-thin lead over Zidi.

As a six -year -old, she discovered her enthusiasm for swimming when she escaped the summer heat. “My father took me to a water park,” said Yu of the Chinese news agency Xinhua, “I enjoyed the cool water and spent a lot of time in various pools for children. One day a trainer came and asked me if I wanted to swim faster.”

Although there is usually a minimum age of 14 years at the World Championships, Zidi received an exemption. Your achievements are already hoping for a great career. In the coming days she will compete in Singapore in further competitions.
