Another suspect, Bernhard Z., is recognized as the buyer of a sports bag at a Decathlon in Alkmaar. This bag was found in the Pelikaanstraat in Assen. In the night of the art robbery, a resident heard her container close and drive away a car. When she looked in the container the next day, she saw a plastic bag, containing the sports bag and clothing. She recognized this clothing of the images that the police had shared.
The Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) has investigated the clothing and sports bag. DNA material was found on the clothing and on the sports bag by Bernhard Z., Chesley W. and his partner. The NFI has also found glass on trousers and jackets. The institute thinks it is more likely that this glass comes from the museum than it comes from another place. It may have come loose when the showcases are broken.
