The 42-year-old man from Elim, who drove in the night from Sunday to Monday at the town hall in Hoogeveen, was released. The police report this. He remains a suspect.
The man was behind the wheel of the car that bumped into the facade of the town hall on Raadhuisplein around 2.40 am. The vehicle then caught fire. The front door of the building was damaged.
Shortly after the incident the man could be arrested by the police. He is suspected of destruction and arson.
A police spokesperson reports that the investigation into the case is still underway. Whether it is a conscious action by the suspect is not yet known.
