After a rescue operation in the European Championship semi-final, Sophia Kleinhernen had to get off the pitch. It will now be missing from her new club for quite a while.
VfL Wolfsburg must initially do without defender Sophia Kleinhernen. The German international suffered an injury to the European Championship, which forces her to break several weeks – the start of the season is therefore questionable.
As the club announced on Monday, the 25-year-old suffered a muscle and tendon injury on both thighs in the European Championship semi-final against Spain (0: 1 NV). It was originally planned that Kleinherne would start training again in August. This schedule should hardly be kept now.
The former Frankfurter, who has been under contract in Wolfsburg since July 1, had been unhappily to the ground against Spain in a defense against Salma Paralluelo and then had to be replaced. In addition to Kleinherne, Sarai Linder is also struck. The 25-year-old also returned from the European Championship with an ankle injury, which she had contracted against France in the quarter-finals.
The Wolfsburg women play their first competitive game of the new season on August 30th. The runner -up in Karlsruhe meets Bayern Munich in the Supercup.
