A shoplifter has threatened an employee on Sunday evening after how it struck at a supermarket in his hometown Raamsdonksveer. That happened with a fake firearm, it turned out later. The suspect, a 50-year-old man, could be arrested soon after he had fled. He had a fake weapon in his pocket.
The theft in a supermarket on Boterpolderlaan in Raamsdonksveer was reported around eight o’clock on Sunday evening. Someone would have stolen groceries. After checking by a supermarket employee, the suspect brought out an object that looked like a firearm. After this he ran out of the store.
The store staff had not only reported the theft: they also gave a description of the suspect. With this, agents could look targeted. Several police cars drove to the Boterpolderlaan and soon officers saw a man who met the description on the Van Wijngaardenstraat. He was arrested there.
Upon his arrest, the agents found the object that looks like a firearm. He had that in his pocket. The fake weapon has been seized and will be further investigated. The suspect has been transferred to the police station, where he is questioned.
It is not known what he would have stolen.
