Florian Lipowitz is right in front of the Podest Coup at the Tour de France 2025. The German cycling star is surprised by his own success.

Florian Lipowitz successfully defended his third place in the overall classification on Saturday afternoon on the 20th stage of the Tour de France 2025.

“The three weeks were now super hard. I would never have expected to be able to ride the podium at all. Of course, a dream will come true,” said Germany’s cycling ace in the “ARD”. “Tomorrow we will do everything we can for staying. But I’m very confident,” said the 24-year-old.

In the Tour de France, Lipowitz only ranks behind the two cycling giants Tadej Pogacar (73: 54: 59h) and Jonas Vingegaard (+4: 24m). His lead over the fourth -placed Oscar onley is a comfortable 1:03 minutes on the way to Paris. Traditionally, the final stage towards Champs Élysées is no longer attacked.

“We definitely have to stay focused”

Lipowitz is likely to write a piece of German cycling history. Andreas Klöden was the last German in 2006, who made it onto the podium in the overall classification at the Tour de France.

But instead of prematurely celebrating, Lipowitz wants to remain concentrated. “If nothing changes in the overall ranking, you can of course enjoy it. We definitely have to stay focused, a lot can happen,” the former biathlete looked at the final stage on Sunday (from 4:10 p.m. in sport.de-Live ticker) ahead.

He hoped “that the weather will be good tomorrow and it doesn’t rain because I think it would be all the more hectic in the rain,” added the driver of the team Red Bull – Bora Hansgrohe. The 21st stage of this year’s Tour de France leads, among other things, over the legendary Montmartre.
