Gucci is a world -famous luxury brand – and part of the French group Kering. Like the former little Florentine leather workshop to one of the largest and most exclusive brands in the world, a new documentary describes on art.

The Franco-German broadcaster shows the 50-minute film “Gucci-Luxury, Lust & Drama” for the first time on Wednesday (July 30th) at 9:55 p.m.

Detailed Gucci history

The scandalous history of the fashion brand gained awareness through Ridley Scott’s glamorous crime drama “House of Gucci”. Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, long-time partner of the fashion house heir Maurizio Gucci, who has hired a contract killer to take revenge on her unfaithful husband. The top -class film with stars such as Al Pacino, Jared Leto and Salma Hayek works primarily on fashion and the scandals of the 1960s.

The Arte documentary, on the other hand, outlines the development of the fashion label chronologically and accurately-exciting, but perhaps sometimes a bit too precise. Every now and then the film is lost in details that are particularly interested in fashion experts. Most of the audience, on the other hand, will probably be remembered in particular the glamorous period of the 1960s and the Clean 90s Chic Tom Fords.

Start in Florence

The film begins with the small leather workshop that Guccio Gucci founded in Florence in 1921. In the beginning he is driven by the desire to create light and elegant travel bags from durable and resistant leather. Then success comes quickly.

Open further shops, only in Rome, later in the USA and in other parts of the world. The range is also expanded. In the 1950s there are shoes for the first time, clothing, perfume, jewelry and accessories were added later.

Stars, icons and supermodels

The documentary shows how money and fame will come with the expansion. Characterized by the style of the jetsetter and the film and fashion icons of the 1960s, Gucci becomes a symbol of class and elegance. Glamorous women wear Gucci and set standards for luxury, like drama star Grace Kelly and style icon Jackie Kennedy, wife of the US President John F. Kennedy murdered in 1963.

The era of designer Tom Ford begins in 1993. It goes hand in hand with stars such as Madonna and supermodels like Kate Moss and Helena Christensen.

Ford shapes the so-called porn chic, a style of scarce G-strings and new sexiness. Women are sexy and confident and therefore powerful – an attitude that the film by director Olivier Nicklaus criticizes as too superficial.

Scandal

But the glamor world of the stars is just one side of Gucci that shows the documentary. Scandals are always troubled by the family empire. It is argued and gladly violent. It is often about the ownership. And also for the stirring climax of the clashes: the order murder of Maurizio Gucci.
