Shortly before the end of the stage: shock moment for Lipowitz
25.07.2025 – 6:35 p.m.Reading time: 1 min.
That was scarce: the German tour hope Florian Lipowitz would have fallen shortly before the end of the 19th stage.
For Florian Lipowitz, the 19th stage of the Tour de France could hardly have run better. The young German confidently defended the white jersey and his third place in the overall classification. But that’s not all – he was even able to expand his lead over competitor Oscar ONLEY and is now 1:03 minutes ahead, only two stages before the grand finale.
The day was by no means free of drama. On the last meters of the stage, about 200 meters before the finish, Lipowitz got into a dangerous situation. Driving behind the two top favorites Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, he crossed a wet color beam on the asphalt. He leaned far forward – and suddenly lost the grip with the rear wheel. A violent slide almost brought him down.
But Lipowitz kept his nerves in the greatest need. With great reaction, he caught his bike again and prevented a fall. That could have ended very differently.
