The municipality of Assen has placed gates in the Baggelhuizen district against a nest of the Asian hornet. The nest was found on the valley in Assen.
The gates are meant to keep people at bay from the nest until it is removed. That will happen tomorrow, the municipality says.
The Asian Hoornaar is an invasive exotic who is starting to settle in the province. This hornet is especially harmful to bees. Asian hornets stitch less often than regular wasps, but the stitches can be more painful.
