Continued from September in the cinema
“Spinal Tap” turn up again, in the truest sense: With the first trailer for the sequel “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues”, the legendary fake rockers around David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls come back. The film starts in the US cinemas on September 12, 2025 and, in addition to a lot of self-irony, also brings some real music greats to the screen. Even the trailer makes it clear: much has not changed, except maybe the age of the band. “Spinal Tap” is still looking for a new drummer. Questlove is even asked in the preview. His answer? “I don’t want to die”, a reference to the notorious series of bizarre drummer death in the spinal tap canon.
Prominent cast
Also, everything stays with the old madness. Director Marty Di Bergi (again played by Rob Reiner) leads through the (fictitious) band universe as in 1984. The members have long been disputed, Hubbins appears with a Mariachi band, Smalls sells cryptocurrency, tufnel makes cheese and crash Irish pub folk bands with overridden guitar noise. But now there is a last reunion concert in New Orleans, including star cast.
Paul McCartney and Elton John appear in the trailer, the latter even on stage with the band. McCartney even calls spinal tap lyrics such as “Pink Torpedo” “literary”. So the humor remains exactly as absurd as fans love it. Bonus for hardcore fans: In parallel, a new 4K restoration of the original on Prime Video and Apple TV (physically from September 16), as well as a new Behind-the scenes book on the classic.
Here is the trailer:
“This is spinal tap” parodied the excessive world of rock ‘n’ roll and accompanied the fictional band on its chaotic US tour, which is characterized by breakdowns, embarrassing appearances and internal conflicts. The satirical mockmentary with its dry humor became one of the key films of the decade in 1984 and is considered a cult especially among music fans.
