On the eighth day of the World University Games, the German water polo players conquered after a strong performance in the New Zealand semi -finals and surprisingly reached the final.

After a game exciting to the last second, the German team ended up 9: 8 against the New Zealanders.

Both teams had an open exchange of blows right from the start. After the New Zealanders won the first quarter 2-1, Germany came into play better in the second section and took a 4: 3 lead into the half-time break after two goals from Elena Ludwig.

The third quarter again belonged to the New Zealanders who took the lead back. So it went into the last eight minutes with a 6: 7 point of view. In these, the Germans were defensively stable and only allowed one goal. After Emma Seehafer equalized to 8: 8, Ionna Petiki made the victory 1:16 minutes before the end.

Germany already has a medal after the successful thriller. The gold medal is on Saturday at 5 p.m. USA.

German men fail because of Italy

Unlike the women, the German water polo players missed their way into the final. The men failed in the semifinals with 14:17 to Italy. The Italians started with a lot of momentum and pulled away with four goals ahead at the half -time break. In the third section, Germany was difficult to free itself from the dominance and was in the meantime with seven goals in the back.

However, the German team did not give up and only allowed a goal in the last section. However, your own four goals were not enough to make up for the high deficit. The best German thrower was captain Marc Gansen with four goals, and Davide Occhione also scored four times for the Italians.

Yasmin Amaadacho misses medal

At the final over 400m hurdles, Yasmin Amaadacho just missed a medal. The 21-year-old was fourth, 13 hundredths of a second behind the third-placed Sára Mátó from Hungary (55.92 seconds) with a personal best of 56.05 seconds. The Italian Alice Muraro (54.60) grabbed the title ahead of Michelle Smith from the American Virgin Islands (55.65).
