Vingegaard will continue to bombard Pogacar in Alpenrit
Jonas Vingegaard will definitely try to attack Tadej Pogacar in the Tour de France on Thursday. That said the Danish leader of Visma – Lease A Bike on the starting stage, shortly before the start of the eighteenth stage, who promises spectacle.
“I think this is one of the toughest tour stages that we will ever see,” Vingergaard looked ahead to a ride over the Col du Glandon, the Col de la Madeleine and the Col de la Loze, a mountain that he has good memories of. In 2023 he rode Pogacar there nearly six minutes.
That was his second final victory in the Tour. This year things are different and Pogacar leads with more than four minutes ahead. “We are behind so we have to try something. We keep doing that too,” said Vingegaard, who usually feels at home in the Alps. “They are three huge climbs.”
Team leader Frans Maassen still has plenty of confidence in the opportunities of his leader. “It will be a challenge, but Jonas can do it. He feels good,” said De Limburger at Eurosport. “We will just try it for the next two days. And it will not work, then we have a deserved winner with Tadej.”
