Borussia Dortmund plans a radical squad conversion: four players could leave the club. There are prominent names on the BVB prank list.
Borussia Dortmund plans to slim down his squad structure and at the same time create financial scope. Four players have apparently ended up with the sales candidates. The focus is on, as the “Sport Bild” reports: Marcel Sabitzer, Giovanni Reyna, Sébastien Haller and Salih Özcan. None of them currently play a major role – everyone is expensive, unnecessary and open to transfers.
Sabitzer (31) was only brought from FC Bayern for 19 million euros in the summer of 2023. Nevertheless, his name is now at the top of the strike list. Reason: a disappointing season with 43 missions, but only one goal. With around 7.5 million euros in the annual salary, Sabitzer is one of the top earners, but only plays a supporting role in terms of sport.
According to internal conversations, the Austrian is said to have a better standing under Neu-coach Niko Kovač again, his reputation as a “stink boot” seems to be ticked off, but a sale remains the preferred solution. If no prospect knocks, the midfielder threatens to become a cost trap, because his contract applies until 2027.
Once celebrated as a great talent, Reyna (22) has now become a problem child. Its market value crashed from 42 to seven million euros in just three years.
The loan to Nottingham Forest was disappointing, there is no future for the American in the BVB squad.
Dortmund wants to sell Reyna profitably. Desired price: ten million euros. There are interested parties – including Los Angeles FC and Parma Calcio. However, the latter club has only offered six million euros. Too little for the Dortmund.
Hardly any story in professional football was as emotional as that of Haller (31). After his cancer in 2022, the Ivor fought himself back – but sporty he could no longer build on his old strength. After two borrowing (Leganés and Utrecht) he now goes to his last contract year. BVB plan A: A sale this summer to save Hallers around ten million euros.
Plan B: A role as a backup for Serhou Guirassy. Trainer Kovac knows Haller from times together in Frankfurt – and may want to integrate him. But the following also applies here: If an offer comes, the departure is likely.
Salih Özcan (27) has already been informed Klipp and clearly that he no longer plays a role in the sporting planning. The midfielder’s contract runs until 2026, but BVB would let him go immediately with a suitable offer.
The club hopes for five million euros transfer, plus the desire to save the rumored million content.
The 1. FC Köln, Özcan earlier club, cannot afford the package – instead hopes rest in Turkey. But a knee injury delays the possible change. There is still no specific offer.
