Three years before the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, trans women in the USA was de facto banned participation in Olympic sports.

The USA’s National Olympic and Paralympic Committee (Usopc) published an updated version of the “Athletes Security Guideline” on its homepage on Monday.

It states that the association will continue to work with other places to ensure, “That women are a safe and fair competition environment” have that was compatible with the regulation 14201. This regulation issued by US President Donald Trump prohibits trans women from participating in competitions for women.

Letter to umbrella organizations: Trump’s requirement must be observed

The word transmen or trans women does not occur on the 27 pages, but the wording is so clear that US media also describe the ban as such. According to reports, the Usopc also sent a letter to the national umbrella organizations that have been said that they were called “A commitment”to make Trump’s requirement.

Trump has repeatedly attacked the rights of trans people since the beginning of his second term and is currently arguing with the US state of California about the participation of trans women in competitions at high school level. The 79-year-old always threatens to delete funding.

IOC President Coventry wants to have rules revised

IOC President Kirsty Coventry recently announced that the rules are checked and revised by a task force with people from science and associations. She spoke of one “Scientific approach”with which the women’s category is to be protected in sport. The IOC is a guest in the USA with the summer games 2028, Trump’s current term runs until 2029.

At the Olympic boxing tournament in Paris 2024, a Spoortler had won gold with IMANE KHELIF, although she was disqualified by the World Championships in the previous year because she supposedly did not meet the gender -specific participation criteria. Khelif has always emphasized that she was born as a woman, lived as a woman and took part in competitions as a woman.

In addition to trans people, these revised rules could also affect DSD athletes who have an increased testosterone value in a natural way. Since competitive advantages can arise from the genetic predisposition, some sports, such as athletics, generally rule out the DSD athletes.
