The repeated German women’s handball champion HB Ludwigsburg faces an uncertain future. HB Ludwigsburg GmbH & Co. KG, under whose roof the professional department of the best German team is operated, has submitted an application to open insolvency proceedings at the responsible district court.

The game continued unchanged, the association said. “The economic situation is tense, but the preparation for the season is on schedule. Our goal is to create the prerequisites for continuing the Ludwigsburg handball location,” the preliminary insolvency administrator Holger Leichtle was cited in a message.

Ludwigsburg’s managing director Sebastian Götz named the overall economic environment and the failure of the short -term promising sponsorship negotiations as the reason for the financial difficulties that finally led to the application for bankruptcy. “In the past few weeks we have been in very promising negotiations, the sudden cancellation of which took us the economic basis,” said Götz.

The club, which had celebrated great success under the name SG BBM Bietigheim by 2024, had only moved to Ludwigsburg last year and became champion and cup winner in the past season. “Our team stands for sporting excellence and a clear value keeping – on and off the field. We very much hope that this commitment will continue to have an effect in the future,” said CEO Christian Köhle.
