The impressive performance of DFB goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger has also not been hidden from the Spanish world champions.
“She is one of the best goalkeepers in the world with a great experience. She will make sure that we have to show our best,” said the two-time world footballer Alexia Putellas before the duel with the German selection in the European Championship semi-final on Wednesday (9:00 p.m./ARD and DAZN) in Zurich.
It was a pleasure to play against the best players, “because they bring you to the limit. Berger is one of these players,” praised Putellas, who had shot a penalty against Berger in the game for Olympic bronze last year in added time (0: 1). Spain’s trainer Montserrat Tomé described Berger’s appearance against France as “incredible”. The German goalkeeper “has her strengths, but also her weaknesses. We analyzed everything”.
In the Zurich Letzigrund, the Spaniards want to move into a European Championship final for the first time – and at the same time celebrate their premiere victory against Germany. With the DFB selection, however, “one of the best national teams in the world,” said Putellas: “I think that they are also very dangerous in the switching game if they don’t have the ball.”
Meanwhile, Tomé did not want to make comparisons to the duel at the Olympics a year ago. The German team has a new coach and other players, “but Germany remains Germany,” she warned.
