The new coach of FC Bayern was introduced on Monday. José Barcala has clear goals – and his first word of German is already sitting.
José Barcala introduced herself full of action and with a big goal on Monday as the new coach of the FC Bayern Munich footballers. “I am very sure that Bayern Munich will very soon win the Champions League.”
The team could keep up with the international top clubs, FC Barcelona and FC Arsenal, to “100%”, he told BR24Sport. For this, however, the Munich women first had to put themselves in the “location to get closer to the top.”
Barcala addressed his most important to-do at the first official appointment: After successful seasons at the national level, FCB is still waiting for the breakthrough in the Champions League. Last season ended in the quarter -finals of the premier class.
Barcala: “Have to us how Champions League winners behave”
In order to fulfill the big CL dream of the double winners, the right attitude is needed, Barcala emphasized: “We have to behave every day like Champions League winners-even in December when it is raining and cold and you have to go out on the place in the morning.”
The Spaniard Barcala follows the Norwegian Alexander Straus and has great footsteps to fill: Under Straus, the FCB women were able to get the championship twice in a row and even celebrate the double last season.
Barcala is satisfied with the squad
It was aware of this, said Barcala on Monday that he wanted to continue the work of his successful predecessor, but promised more tactical flexibility. “My team should play unpredictable.” He does not feel any pressure, as he says BR24sport, rather it is a huge privilege to be coach of the Munich women.
The new trainer was most recently active in Servette FC Chenois Feminin in Geneva in Switzerland. Servette FC had completed the main round in the Swiss league as third, in the play-offs the surprising end followed against Grasshopper Club Zurich.
Family accompanied Barcala to Munich
“My leadership style goes very well with women’s teams,” he said of his career, “I am very quiet and try to create a safe place. The players shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes.” Barcala spoke English that his first German word was “meal”, he reported.
His wife and the two daughters accompanied him to Munich, and he has already internalized the guiding principle “Mia San Mia”. “We are who we are,” said Barcala, which also means “pride and a connection to the region”.
Bayern women start the season at the end of August
With his role as a FCB coach, a dream come true, he feels great gratitude. “It is difficult to find something that is not exciting about Bayern Munich. The association is a symbol of excellence in every respect,” he said.
Bayern start the season with the Supercup on August 30 in Karlsruhe against VfL Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga opening game against Bayer Leverkusen will take place in the Allianz Arena on September 6th. “It will be a very special game,” Barcala told BR24Sport and added: “The players deserve to play in front of the fans in the stadium.”
