In the living room of Hospice Dignitas in Hoorn is a large book filled with many postcards and even more sweet words. It is a thank you book, designed by relatives of guests who have died in the Hospice. A collection of messages in which sorrow and gratitude merge.

The hospice can also count on the necessary compliments online. On the website mapzorgnederland.nl the hospice is rated with a 9.5. “My wife is great and treated with respect, I couldn’t have done that better,” a relative leaves behind.

“Do you think I’m dying?”

Carrolien Schouten-Koster returns to Hospice a few months after her father Jan’s death. In January of this year – just before his death – she still had an open conversation with her 92 -year -old father, as so often.

After another fall, he broke his hip. Given his brittle Gestel, operation was no longer possible and after a short hospitalization he ended up in Hospice Dignitas in Hoorn.

“Do you think I’m dying?” He asked his daughter. “I think so, Dad,” she replied. “Well, that’s not so beautiful,” it sounded dry.
