On the 14th stage in the Pyrenees there is an incident on the street. The situation can be clearly seen on TV pictures. Once again, a person from the audience is involved.
For the German high-flyer Florian Lipowitz, the 14th stage of the Tour de France was optimal: Due to the exit of the previous third Remco Evenepoel, the 24-year-old took third place from the Team Red-Bora-Hansgrohe in the overall ranking behind tour dominator Tadej Pogačar and his pursuer Jonas Vingegaard.
But at the race on Saturday there was also a big moment of fright away from the bike stars. The focus: an accompanying vehicle of the Ineos Grenadier team-and a person on the edge of the route.
What happened? 14. Stage in the Pyrenees, 32.6 kilometers before the target of the section from Pau to Superbagnères on the Tourmalet. A good 200 meters before the climax of the climb at Col de Payeresourde. In TV pictures you can see how the Red Skoda of the Ineos team drives slowly before a person suddenly appears in front of the vehicle in a green top. And by the car – at least not at full speed. The person then bounces down.
It can be seen that numerous other spectators are on the track and therefore take a great risk.
Reuters’ intelligence service has now reported that the organizers of the tour did not know anything about the incident on request. The Ineos-Grenadier team was not directly accessible for a statement. There is also no more known to the person’s health.
During the Tour de France there are always incidents with spectators on the edge of the route and other disorders. It was only on the 11th stage of this year’s France tour in a critical phase of the race an activist ran onto the route to protest against the participation of Israeli drivers.
