In 2022, ONS Jabeur is about to become number 1 of the tennis world. This is followed by injuries and mental problems. Now the Tunisian is drawn consequences.

The three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur takes a tennis break indefinitely. “In the past two years I have reached my limits, fought with injuries and faced many other challenges. But deep inside I haven’t felt really comfortable on the square,” said the 30 -year Tunisian on social networks.

Jabeur left open whether and when she will return to the tour. In the past, she had already indicated that hate comments on the Internet had burdened her so that she had even thought about ending her career.

Jabeur celebrated great success in 2022 and 2023. She reached Wimbledon’s final twice, and in 2022 she was also in the US Open final. In the meantime, the former number two in the world has fallen back to 71th place in the world rankings.

At the end of June, Jabeur played her last match at the tournament in Wimbledon, where she had to give up injured in the first round. In her statement she wrote: “Now it is time to take a step back and put myself in the first place: to breathe to heal and rediscover the joy of life.”
