The cabinet provides more than € 700 million subsidy to companies that will produce sustainable hydrogen in the Netherlands.
The government will thus accelerate the development of sustainable hydrogen in the Netherlands. This increases security of supply, it contributes to the sustainability of industry and mobility, and reduces the CO2-Ill.. In addition to increasing the offer, it is also focused on stimulating use by industry, refineries and in mobility.
The money comes from the OWE subsidy scheme that was opened last year. A total of € 3.2 billion was applied for, of which more than € 700 million has been awarded to 11 companies. The subsidized projects are good for around 602 megawatts of electrolysis capacity. In terms of production scope, this is more than three times as much as the currently largest water substance factory under construction, the Holland Hydrogen 1.
The intended hydrogen customers include refineries, the chemical industry or gas stations. With the new hydrogen yield, 5000 can drive around for hydrogen driven trucks for a year.
Minister Hermans (climate and green growth): “By producing sustainable hydrogen in the Netherlands, we become less dependent on abroad. Increasing our production capacity is therefore an important and logical step. But we are not there yet. We will have to continue to invest in different energy sources to further reduce our energy dependence.”
De bedrijven die subsidie ontvangen zijn: H2Eron (Delfzijl), Circul8 Waterstof Fabriek (Lelystad), Eurus Energy Europe (Veendam), Air Liquide Industrie (Rotterdam), Uniper Hydrogen Netherlands (Rotterdam), FR Energyhubs (Steenwijk), Westfalen Waterstof (Zutphen), Essent Hydrogen (Deventer), Den Tol Duurzaam (Gendringen), Vattenfall (Eemshaven) and Statkraft Renewables Benelux (Den Helder).
With the subsidy, the price difference between renewable and fossil hydrogen is closed. For the award, companies compete at subsidy requirements per megawatt electrolysis capacity, the companies with the lowest grant requirement win the allowance.
A total of € 998 million was available. The government is currently investigating whether companies can sign up for the remainder of the subsidy budget. The feasibility depends on European state aid rules.
