The Steve Miller band canceled all the remaining tour dates for this year. Front man Steve Miller published an explanation on the band’s website. In it he shares with that he breaks down the tour due to extreme weather conditions.
“You make music with your instinct,” wrote Steve Miller. “You live on your instinct. Always trust your instinct … The Steve Miller Band has canceled all of our upcoming tour dates. The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable floods, tornados, hurricanes and massive forest fires makes these risks for you, our audience, the band and the crew. So … You can blame the weather …”
The musician added: “Don’t know where, don’t know when … We hope to see you all again.”
No concrete weather events mentioned
Steve Miller did not name any concrete weather events that had affected the tour. The start was planned for August 15th. The planned venues were the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, New York, and Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California. Miller should also appear fairly at this year’s Minnesota State. The Steve Miller band had only played one concert this year – in a casino in Oklahoma.
Increasing effects of extreme weather on concerts
Steve Miller’s decision only follows a few weeks after Chrissie Hynde warned of the Pretenders about the future of open-air concerts. Both in the United States and in the United Kingdom were measured. “I hope you survive the heat waves well,” Hynde wrote in a long Instagram post in June.
“I remember the last few years when we supported Guns n ‘Roses and then the Foo Fighters in stadiums (to finance the club tours that I prefer to play). It was so hot that I had to tie ice cream bag around my waist. I realized that open-air events would come to an end. It is too hot.”
Also in June, the popular Bonnaroo music festival had to be canceled on the festival site due to weather -related conditions. At an open-air K-pop concert by the band Stray Kids, five visitors had to be taken to the hospital for heat stroke.
