The eleventh stage of the Tour de France offered plenty of tension – and all attacks. In the end, the Norwegian Jonas Abrahamsen (“Uno-X Mobility”) prevailed in front of the Swiss Mauro Schmid (“Team Jayco Alula”). When the duo headed for the finish line in full sprint and got rushed up from behind Mathieu van der Poel (“Alpecin-Deceuninck”), a speedster suddenly ran on the track.
ARD commentator Florian Naß only said horrified: “My goodness, what idiots are there on this planet.” A folder struggled to push the speedster towards the gang and away from the entrance to the finish. Van der Poel looked when he drove by, irritated to the scene. He finished the stage as third. The Dutch had the hope of catching up with the outliers, which in the end did not succeed by seven seconds.
The Belgian Arnaud de Lie (“Lotto”) took fourth place in front of his compatriot Wout van Aert (“Visma – Lease A Bike”). Defending champion Tadej Pogačar had previously plunged four kilometers before the finish and had caused a little moment of shock. But the favorites did not increase the pace. And the Slovenian exceptional driver was able to catch up with a few scratches.
The German hopeful Florian Lipowitz said in the ARD: “I didn’t really notice it, but we definitely took out the pace. The sports director of Lipowitz, Rolf Aldag, also said that in such a scene there was respect.
