Correia opted for his intended basic setup in the first half. This again meant a central trio in the back with Devon Koswal, Guus Offerhaus and captain Danny Bakker. Milan Zonneveld formed the forefront together with Soufiane Hetli and Patrick Brouwer.
Rijnsburgse Boys, which was pretty second in the Second Division last season, was hardly involved in the first half. Telstar had to and was allowed to make the game and did not do it fast enough to disturb the defense of Rijnsburg. A sloppiness in the back of the team from South Holland eventually caused the opening goal. Devon Koswal was free after a repelled ball and shot the 1-0 nicely through the legs of the goalkeeper.
