Trainer René Hake immediately left FC Utrecht

FOOTBALL – René Hake is no longer a trainer of FC Utrecht. The ways of the premier divisionist and the trainer from Erica separate immediately. Hake has been at the helm of the Utrecht team since 2019.

Hake was the trainer of Jong FC Utrecht at the time and was transferred as head coach after the then head coach John van den Brom exchanged FC Utrecht for KRC Genk. With Hake as head coach, the Utrecht team reached the final of the play-offs for European football last season, in which Feyenoord was too strong. FC Utrecht is currently seventh in the Eredivisie.

No clarity

On Sunday, Hake’s team lost 3-1 to FC Groningen in its own Galgenwaard. After the defeat, part of the Utrecht supporters called for the departure of De Drent, who previously worked at FC Emmen, FC Twente and SC Cambuur. Afterwards, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the club management had still not given him any clarity about next season. “They might want to say goodbye, but maybe I do too,” Hake said.

He said he was confident that he could still bend the negative series. “In the end I am also someone who knows the football world,” Hake said. “I know that if the results are disappointing over a longer period, then there will be evaluative conversations with me as the person ultimately responsible. In those conversations we agreed that FC Utrecht and I will each go our own way.”

Rick Kruys, the current assistant coach, will finish the season as head coach.
