Start of the season at FC Barcelona as number three or club change? The German keeper Marc-André Ter Stegen is currently faced with this question.

In a personal conversation, Barça coach Hansi Flick is said to have told his goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen last week that he started the new season behind Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny. A non -acceptable condition for a goalkeeper who claims to be in goal at the World Cup next summer as Germany’s number one.

The only solution to this grievance currently seems to be a change of club – even if Ter Stegen, according to Spanish media reports, wants to bite through FC Barcelona until summer. But the problem with a change could become the lavish content of the German goalkeeper.

At FC Barcelona, the Mönchengladbach native is to earn around 18 million euros a year. He is one of the top earners in the club. Which other club could offer him a similar salary? According to reports, the Turkish top club Galatasaray Istanbul has reported a proposal. “Gala”, as the Spanish portal “Sport” reports, is supposedly even ready to raise the salary of the goalkeeper a little.

But there is a prerequisite for this: Barça would have to let the keeper, who still has three years of the remaining contract period, be returned free of charge. Sounds absurd, but accepted, Flick really plans to be number three with ter Stegen, then FC Barcelona will do everything possible to delete the goalkeeper from the salary list.

In this respect, a transfer -free change may also be conceivable. Barça would have a large earner on the salary list, Galatasaray a world-class goalkeeper who is said to receive a four-year contract.

However, if FC Barcelona is not ready to let the Stegen free go, then the high salary could stand in the way of a change. At the age of 33, Ter Stegen is still at a good age for a goalkeeper, but he is also prone to injury – as was the case recently. In this respect, it seems more than questionable whether clubs would offer him a similar salary as Barça. In order to be at the World Cup, the goalkeeper would have to slim down in terms of salary.
