The British musician and actor David Kaff, bourgeois David Kaffinetti, died of a natural death at the age of 79. The news was announced by his bandmates of the Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom on Facebook. Kaff was primarily known for his role as VIV Savage in the cult film “This is Spinal Tap”.

“Rest in peace, dear brother”
The band wrote on Facebook: “Our brother David Kaffinetti died peacefully yesterday in her sleep.” It also says: “We are deeply shaken by this event. David always had a friendly word and a quick mind that immediately blew up.” And further: “And he made one smile! Quiet in peace, dear brother,” they ended the statement.
Kaff had his best -known role in 1984 in the mockmentary “This is Spinal Tap”, in which he played a small but extremely memorable role as a keyboardist Viv Savage. Even after the film, he was part of the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap until 1984 and performed with her on “Saturday Night Live”.
David Kaff: Part of many projects
In addition to Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom, Kaff was part of numerous musical projects. He was a co-founder of the progressive rock band Rare Bird and belonged to this until 1975. The band celebrated their greatest success with the song “Sympathy”, which achieved 27th place on the British charts. In addition, Kaff played Keyboard on Chuck Berry’s album the London Chuck Berry Sessions in 1972.
On September 19, 2025, the continuation “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” will be found in the USA – 40 years after the original. However, David Kaffinetti was not involved in production and should not appear in the film.
