It has been two years since Gorillaz published her studio album Cracker Island. Now founder Damon Albarn announces that he is currently working on the ninth work of the virtual band. However, as initially assumed, it should not appear in 2025, but rather next year.

An album “In four languages”, says Damon Albarn
In an interview with the “Sun” on July 10th, Damon Albarn says: “I was incredibly busy making music – that’s what I love – so I will soon have to share something about it.” He also talks about a new Gorillaz album there: “I listed an opera in Paris and started working on the new Gorillaz album.” Plus: “I guess I will have to give away some of it soon.”
He also revealed more about the album in an interview with the “Times” on July 12th. This should not appear before 2026. For this he explains: “The new Gorillaz plate is in four languages!” However, he did not explain exactly what this means. “Apart from a few live appearances later this summer, Albarn’s Cartoon giant will not return until next year,” it says.
Earlier announcement: Album actually planned for 2025
Damon Albarn had already indicated in March 2025 that a new Gorillaz plate could be released this year. In an interview with the French magazine “Les inrockuptibles”, he said: “I am currently completing a new Gorillaz album. A opera and a new Gorillaz album seem to me to be sufficient for 2025! Unless someone accuses me of not going full throttle anymore!”
What else is to say about Oasis
The Blur front man Oasis had just named the winner of eternal Britpop rivalry. “I think we can officially say that Oasis won the fight, the war, the exchange of blows – simply everything -“, Albarn told the “Sun”. Humanly he added: “That was clear, wasn’t it?”
