The Spaniard retraces the separation with the Maranello team: “I was professional, giving everything to the last race for the team”
The last year of Carlos Sainz at Ferrari has been decidedly positive. Nine total podiums in the F1 2024 World Championship, among which the victories in Australia and Mexico stand out: excellent results, also because the son of art has experienced the season with the certainty of leaving the Italian team to make room for Lewis Hamilton in 2025. The Spanish, now pilot Williams, has returned to talk about the farewell to Ferrari in Podcast High Performance. And he did not hide that he had fought the temptation to sow chaos inside the Maranello team.
Bad thoughts
–
Sainz was straightforward: “A pilot with a great ego could have made Ferrari to pieces in that year, perhaps becoming a little political. We all have an angel and a devil inside us. My demon said to me: ‘There are so many things that you could say, do or change'”. Carlos, however, was able to keep bad thoughts at bay, preferring to safeguard the harmony of the team: “My angel had the best: I was professional, giving absolutely everything until the last race for this team”.
The new challenge
–
The Spaniard also explained the reasons behind such a behavior: “I did it for all those who had nothing to do with that decision”. A reference to the choice of preferring Hamilton. He also specified: “I had to give them my highest professional level and a happy new year, without setting the environment. It was right to do it for the team but also for myself”. In this way Sainz has avoided a harmful climate in the box divided with Charles Leclerc, helping Ferrari to place himself in second position in the manufacturers’ championship. Greeted the Maranello team after four years, Carlos is trying to bring Williams back up. A complicated challenge: currently the Spaniard is fifteenth in the 2025 world championship with 13 points total.
