Should national coach Christian Wück replace goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger? German football fans are dessed.

Germany’s defeat in the third group game of women’s football European Football offered some discussion material. The focus: goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. The goalkeeper was not solely responsible for failure, but she made a partially hair -raising mistake in the building game. Already after the game against Denmark (2-1) there had been a debate about the game style of the 34-year-old. National coach Christian Wück had critically noted her risky playing style.

Berger’s performance against Sweden was now the trigger of a Pro & contras of the T-Online sports editor William Laing and Kim Steinke. “Wück really wants to become a European champion, he now proves courage and relies on stina Johannes,” says William Laing. Kim Steinke, on the other hand, is reminiscent of Berger’s good performances and replies: “The question of a change in the German goal must not arise now.” You can read the complete Pro & Contra here. Numerous letters followed the dispute.

Till Taxis writes: “I can no longer hear and read the violent criticism of Berger. I have rarely seen such a good goalkeeper. She needs to strengthen and support the team.”

“In any case, Wück goalkeeper Berger has to change,” says Michael Cord. “So far she has not convinced and makes a very uncertain impression.”

Dieter Stemmer sees the trouble with the coach: “Germany has no goalkeeper problem, but rather a coaching problem. In contrast to interim national coach Horst Hrubesch, Wück does not give the team to the team.

“Ms. Berger has been a constant uncertainty factor since the beginning of the European Championship, which could have leaded to many goals in the previous games,” says Dieter Hennig. “A keeper belongs to the goal who plays calmly and reliably – but not one who does a bootful spectacular actions alone after cheers. It takes a change now when otherwise?!”

Michael from the Driesch sees the problem in other parts of the team: “It has to be held on Ann-Katrin Berger, because the problems are on the field.

“Ann-Katrin Berger held excellently at the 2024 Olympic Games-I was thrilled at the time,” reveals horst Wormsbächer. “At the current European Championship, she cannot repeat the performance from back then. Your passing at the kick -off is usually unnecessarily risky, she doesn’t play particularly well for the goals. I think a change would be appropriate.”

“The goalkeeper made so many mistakes that the entire back team became unsafe – and that again,” observed again, “observed Dieter Frenthoff. “They were probably not interested in the warning of the coaching team at all. That must have consequences. The runner -up goalkeeper cannot make it worse and should get a chance.”
